Introduction
The words spoken and the miles traveled by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, form a path—a map for those seeking truth.
The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) stands as a guide to the Kingdom of Heaven, a message for the lost who are searching and ready to be found. It is a guide toward eternal life.
Through His teachings and the witness of His disciples, we are given insight into His words—words that call for reflection, repentance, faith, and action.
Even through modern portrayals like The Chosen, His message can reach us in new and meaningful ways. I believe the Lord finds each of us in different ways, at different times.
My hope is that this guide brings you peace and draws you closer to Jesus. Believe in Him and in what He has done for us.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16)
The Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill.
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself.
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you.
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 6
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.
4 That thine alms may be in secret.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and pray to thy Father which is in secret.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth.
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
24 No man can serve two masters.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow.
Matthew 7
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
8 For every one that asketh receiveth.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate.
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man.
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine.
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
